Irish racehorse owners JP McManus and John Magnier have emerged as the men behind the mystery company that bought a substantial stake in Manchester United this week.

The Cubic Expression Company became the second-largest stakeholder in United after buying 6.77% of the football club, or 17.5 million shares.

United's value rose 7% yesterday as details of the Cubic deal emerged.
