Aer Lingus is adding a €35 surcharge to all its transatlantic and Middle-East flights because of higher fuel costs.
The company says the cost of fuel per passenger on long-haul flights has risen by 86 percent since last year.
The extra charge will apply to all new bookings made for travel made on or after the May 15.
Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion was quoted as saying: “Since 2005 the cost of fuel per passenger on long-haul routes has increased by over 86% while at the same time average fares have fallen. In light of the continuing increases in fuel, Aer Lingus can no longer absorb these costs.”
