Cervical cancer vaccine chosen in UK
The British government has awarded pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline the contract for a vaccine aimed at preventing cervical cancer, it announced today.
Cervarix will be given to girls aged 12 and 13 from this September in an attempt to cut the number contracting Human papillomavirus (HPV), which causes most cases of the disease.
It was chosen over Gardasil, from Merck and Sanofi Pasteur.
