Classic-placed Mamool captured the inaugural Khas El Dhaheb under Frankie Dettori at Nad Al Sheba yesterday.
The Rothmans Royals St Leger fourth, winner of the Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot, accounted for Pugin, one of four runners for Godolphin, by a length and a quarter.
Simeon, the French Derby third, and Dermot Weld’s Mutakarrim, were mere also-rans in seventh and eighth respectively.
Dettori was delighted with the effort of the winner.
“I like Mamool very much,” he told www.godolphin.com.
“He took on the best horses in England last year and this drop in class has done him the world of good and he won well.”
“He ran a super race in the Leger last year and we took him to the German Derby and he also won at Royal Ascot. We can have some fun with him over long distances this year.”
