Inxile made virtually all the running to win the Woodlands Stakes at Naas.

Inxile made virtually all the running to win the Woodlands Stakes at Naas.

Ridden by Adrian Nicholls and trained by his father, David, the four-year-old drifted from the far side of the course towards the centre in the closing stages.

The 7-2 favourite won by half a length from another British challenger, the veteran Reverence, in this Listed heat over five furlongs. Le Cadre Noir was third.

“We don’t come here for the daffodils,” said Nicholls.

“He was hard to place last year so we went to France and over to Ireland - he’ll do the same again this year.

“He’s tough, a bit like Tax Free, but he’s still very green and he’s not had a lot of experience.

“He’s a hard horse to ride but I think he’s got a big future.”
