The Government's deputy chief whip has condemned the Israeli army for shooting a 23-year-old Cork woman in the occupied West Bank today.

Caoimhe Butterly was shot in the leg by soldiers firing live ammunition in the Jenin refugee camp this morning.

Fianna Fail's Billy Kelleher called for a full investigation into the shooting and into the killing of a British UN official in Jenin this morning.

"This is the second time that Caoimhe has been injured by Israeli forces in recent months and raises serious questions about the level of force being used in Palestinian areas," he said.

"It must be made clear to those responsible that they cannot target international observers who are in the region to ensure human rights are respected by all sides."
