Australian rider Simon Gerrans produced a fantastic final climb to win stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia today.
The Cervelo TestTeam cyclist pulled clear of Rubens Bertogliati and Francesco Gavazzi in the final two kilometres of the route from Campi Bisenzio to Bologna, powering up a gruelling 16% climb - the steepest of the day.
The trio were part of a 14-strong group which accelerated ahead of the peloton early in the 172km stage.
It was Cervelo's first stage victory of the tour.
Overall race leader Denis Menchov retained the pink jersey, staying just ahead of nearest rival Danilo Di Luca as the peloton crossed the line.
