Met Éireann has posted a national yellow status warning – its lowest threat level – with wet weather due to move in from the south-west along with gale force winds and high seas.

Conditions are expected to be severe along the south and west coasts as the weather system deepens overnight into Monday.

Surf reports and enthusiasts from around the country have been warning of massive swells moving with the storm and estimating waves in some areas could reach anywhere from 35ft to as high as 65ft.

Forecasters said winds will be on average of 50 to 65km/h and gust up to 110km/h especially in coastal areas, while a spell of heavy rain with further very high tides and high seas will add to the continuing danger of coastal flooding.
