The warning comes in the wake of the murders of 10-year-old schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire.

Paul Gilligan of the ISPCC says lessons must be learned from the Soham deaths.

Ireland currently falls behind UK standards in terms of vetting procedures.
