CSO figures show rise in planning permissions

There has been an increase of almost a quarter in the number of planning permissions granted.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office show that in the third quarter of this year, permission was granted for 2,662 dwelling units, compared to 2,144 for the same period in 2014, a rise of 24.2%.

The majority of permissions were for houses, up 31.5% in the quarter, when compared to the same period last year, at 2,345.

There was a drop of just over 12% in planning permissions for apartments.

The total number of planning permissions granted for all developments, which includes extensions and conversions, was 5,002, a rise of 15.6% on the figure for the third quarter of last year, 4,328.
