Rape claim woman is ‘playing high risk game,’ says Hamilton

Neil Hamilton said today the woman he and his wife are alleged to have sexually assaulted is playing a ‘‘high risk game.’’

Neil Hamilton said today the woman he and his wife are alleged to have sexually assaulted is playing a ‘‘high risk game.’’

Mother-of-four Nadine Milroy-Sloan took the decision to wave her right to anonymity and is pictured in a Sunday newspaper.

She said: ‘‘The Hamiltons have accused me of hiding behind the right of rape victims to remain anonymous.

‘‘But I want the world to know I have nothing to hide.’’

The 27-year-old trainee college lecturer from Grimsby, Humberside, claims the Hamiltons’ sexually assaulted her in a flat in Ilford, Essex, on May 5 when she was also raped by a third man Barry Lehaney, 60.

Mr Hamilton, 52, and his wife Christine have strenuously denied the allegations.

Today the former Tory minister said: ‘‘I can’t explain why she has waived her right to anonymity, but she is playing a high risk game in my view.

‘‘At the end of the day I will be seeking action against her for making false statements and wasting police time.’’

He said he felt sorry for Ms Milroy-Sloan if she was the victim of a sexual attack, but added: ‘‘We had no part in it.’’

‘‘She went to police on May 6, the day after she says the attack took place and yet could not remember at what time it happened.

‘‘It seems remarkable that you make a complaint to the police within 24 hours and yet cannot remember at what time an attack took place.’’

Mr Hamilton said he had eight independent witnesses who can put him in Claridge’s in London at around 6.30pm, including American entrepreneur Lorie Karnath.

Ms Karnath said: ‘‘They seemed very poised. These claims do not make sense. They were calm and collected.’’

Mr Hamilton said: ‘‘We have eight witnesses to show we were in Claridge’s between 6pm and 7.30.

‘‘The rape is supposed to have happened at 5pm. The journey from Ilford takes about one hour by car and probably an hour and a half on a Saturday so it’s physically impossible for us to have been in Ilford, bearing in mind we were on the King’s Road at around 3.30pm.

‘‘The girl said the rape went on for several hours so that makes it totally inconceivable.’’

The toll of the allegations are telling on his 51-year-old wife who pulled out of a live interview on Friday evening suffering from physical and emotional exhaustion. Mr Hamilton said she is ‘‘perking up’’.
