The Who, The Killers and Arctic Monkeys will headline this summer’s Glastonbury Festival, it was confirmed today.

Lily Allen, Paul Weller, Amy Winehouse and Shirley Bassey also feature in the full line-up of more than 200 musicians performing at the event later this month.

The festival, which starts on June 22, will be the largest yet, with an extended capacity for 177,500 campers.

Festival organiser Michael Eavis today spoke of his excitement as he confirmed The Who, The Killers and Arctic Monkeys would headline on the Pyramid Stage.

Mr Eavis said: “Believe it or not, it gets easier every year. People really want to play and get involved these days.”

Kasabian, The Fratellis, Bloc Party and The Kooks are among other big acts confirmed to play on the larger stage.

Bjork, The Coral, Editors and Babyshambles will perform on the second Other Stage.

Mr Eavis said he was most looking forward to watching the American singer John Fogerty perform on the Jazz World Stage.

He added: “They are on the Jazz World stage at eight o’clock so I will be dashing over to the main stage to see The Killers afterwards. You could not dream up what has happened to this festival. It never fails to amaze me.”

Headlining the John Peel stage, named after the late Radio 1 DJ, will be Hot Chip, The Twang and The Gossip.

Rufus Wainwright, Paolo Nutini and the Chemical Brothers will also perform.

The gates officially open at 8am on Wednesday June 20 but the main stage performances will start on the Friday.

As well as the top two locations, the Pyramid Stage and the Other Stage, there are about 30 other stages, tents, cafes and bandstands filled with live acts.

This year festival goers will be asked to make a difference to climate change by reducing their carbon footprint.

As well as eating organic food, washing in carbon neutral showers and being supplied with recycled toilet paper, revellers will be invited to join the I Count campaign, which details 16 steps to reduce environmental impact.

A small number of cancelled tickets will go on sale on the See Tickets website on Sunday, organisers confirmed.
