Equal in Europe welcomes referendum date

No vote campaigners 'Equal in Europe' are welcoming today's announcement of a polling date in the Nice Treaty referendum.

No vote campaigners 'Equal in Europe' are welcoming today's announcement of a polling date in the Nice Treaty referendum.

A spokesperson expressed the hope that the announcement would facilitate debate on the issues.

The spokesperson has called on the electorate to vote No, saying that the Treaty would be bad for Ireland and Europe.

According to Equal in Europe, a yes vote would, "reduce the legitimacy of the Commission by removing the automatic representation of each country and the new procedures around enhanced co-operation would lead to a two class union."
