INO seeks advice on legality of public-service pay cuts

The Irish Nurses Organisation says it is seeking professional advice on the legality of any government move to cut the pay of its members.

The Irish Nurses Organisation says it is seeking professional advice on the legality of any government move to cut the pay of its members.

The union says its executive council has also voted not to enter any negotiations with the Government that are aimed at securing pay cuts.

It says it recognises that the economy is in recession, but says the brunt of any cutbacks must be faced by everyone in Irish society "according to ability to pay".
