Connacht second row Mike McCarthy was cleared of a citing complaint at a disciplinary hearing today in Cardiff.

Connacht second row Mike McCarthy was cleared of a citing complaint at a disciplinary hearing today in Cardiff.

The Ireland international was brought before a disciplinary committee for allegedly making contact with the eye or eye area of Glasgow Warriors lock forward Tom Ryder, in the RaboDirect PRO12 match on 5 May 2012.

The complaint was based on an infringement of law 10.4(m): acts contrary to good sportsmanship.

The committee, consisting of Robert Williams, Simon Thomas and Aurwel Morgan, all from Wales, found on the evidence available that there had been no contact with the eye or eye area and therefore dismissed the complaint.

McCarthy's explanation of what happened in the incident as well as a statement from Tom Ryder helped the committee come to a conclusion.
