Money Trix has been ruled out of the Cheltenham Gold Cup following his disappointing display in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown earlier this month.
The 10-year-old was a leading fancy for the Grade One contest having been beaten just half a length in the Lexus Chase over Christmas, but he could only finish sixth of the seven runners.
Trainer Nicky Richards has said his charge has not suffered any serious injury but connections have decided to bypass the Festival in March.
“Everything is OK with him but we just decided we’re not going to bother with the Gold Cup,” said Richards.
“He came back from Leopardstown with a bit of a bruised foot but he’ll be fine and I suppose the options for him now would be Aintree and Punchestown.
“The main thing with him is the ground though and if it doesn’t go his way in the spring, he probably wouldn’t run again this season.
“We were obviously disappointed with his last run but in fairness to Davy (Russell), he came back and held his hands up and said he hadn’t ridden a very good race.
“He said he should have kicked on earlier and made use of his stamina, but it says something about the man that he blamed himself.
“We’ll not look backwards anyway and we’ll look forward to the future with him.”
