A European Central Bank survey shows that Irish banks have tightened up on lending due to the global economic downturn.

The Euro Area Bank Lending Survey shows that Irish banks expect a significant increase in the net tightening of credit standards for loans to enterprises this year.

The study also shows that conditions have become more restrictive for households, but to a lesser extent.

Five Irish banks took part in the survey.
