Ex-soccer star Stan Collymore was appearing before magistrates today charged with making a threat to kill his estranged wife.

The former Liverpool, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest striker is also accused of causing criminal damage, a public order offence and issuing a threat to destroy property by fire.

Collymore, who was appearing at Stafford Magistrates’ Court this morning, was arrested at his home in Cannock last Monday.

The player’s agent revealed last week that Collymore (aged 33) will strenuously deny the charges, which are related to an alleged dispute with his wife, Estelle.
