Gardaí display €1m worth of drugs seized in Drogheda

€1m worth of drugs seized in Drogheda last week were displayed in garda headquarters today.

The drugs were seized as part of an intelligence-led operation by the Garda National Drugs Unit on April 4 and 5.

Three men are in custody as part of the investigation.

Speaking at Garda HQ, Detective Superintendent Stephen Courage (GNDU) said: "We know that by targeting the sale and supply of drugs, we are targeting the livelihood of criminals, and reducing their ability to carry out illegal activities.

"We will continue to disrupt criminals and dismantle their networks, utilising advanced analytical and intelligence methods to facilitate targeted operations, such as seen in Drogheda last weekend.

"We will continue to ensure all possible legislation available to us is used, that we continue to innovate and develop new strategies to target groups and individuals involved in drug crime, and that we work together with national and international partners to share information gathered for the benefit of all."

He acknowledged the assistance of the PSNI in last week's seizure, and added that families threatened by criminal groups should contact local gardaí. Trained Inspectors are available in each Division to coordinate response to intimidation.
