The death toll from today's suicide bomb blast in Iraq has risen to at least 38, with 72 people injured, according to the Iraqi army.
The incident happened when a female suicide bomber detonated an explosive vest among a group of pilgrims in Baghdad.
The attack came as Iraqi forces took the lead on security under an agreement with the United States which went into effect on New Year’s Day.
Under that agreement, US forces take a back seat on security issues in much of the country following the December 31 expiration of a UN mandate for foreign troops.
