HSE and consultants in second day of pay talks

Medical organisations and health employers hold a second day of talks today, aimed at reaching agreement on a new contract for consultants.

Medical organisations and health employers hold a second day of talks today, aimed at reaching agreement on a new contract for consultants.

One area of concern for the consultants is a gagging clause contained in the contract proposals put forward by employers.

The gagging issue was one of a number of sticking points in previous negotiations, which broke down last April.

The Health Service Executive has described the talks as providing the last chance for agreement.

No deal is expected to be reached until the middle of next week.
