Hughes set for Villa return

Aston Villa defender Aaron Hughes will be back in action before the end of the season after a scan on his knee revealed no ligament damage.

Aston Villa defender Aaron Hughes will be back in action before the end of the season after a scan on his knee revealed no ligament damage.

Reports claimed the Northern Ireland skipper would be sidelined for the rest of the campaign after the injury, suffered in the 3-2 defeat at Wigan in midweek.

But Villa are hoping Hughes might even be fit to play in Tuesday’s re-arranged home game against Manchester City.

A Villa spokesman said: “Aaron has had a scan which has revealed nothing more than bruising and certainly no knee-ligament damage.

“He will be resting for a few days but we wouldn’t rule him out of playing against Manchester City.”
