Special features can't save Eragon

Liked Lord of the Rings and want to watch something similar?

Liked Lord of the Rings and want to watch something similar?

Then steer well clear of Eragon (Fox, €24.99), which boasts the usual mix of dragons, sorcerers and mayhem and yet somehow contrives to leave you underwhelmed.

The surprise is that, while the cast of John Malkovich, Jeremy Irons, Robert Carlyle and Djimon Hounsou is strong, even they can’t rescue this awful mess.

Based on a novel by 15-year-old Christopher Paolini, Eragon (Ed Speleers) is a country lad who stumbles across the last dragon in existence.

Next thing he knows, he’s riding the dragon in a battle against the evil King Galbatorix (Malkovich).

Avoid like the plague. A strong line-up of special features can’t rescue this film.
