Port of Cork expects 50,000 tonnes of salt

At least six further shipments of salt are expected into the Port of Cork between Christmas Eve and January 6, 2011, bringing 50,000 tonnes of salt through the port.

MV CFL Prospect is due to arrive at the port tomorrow at 8am bringing 6,300 tonnes of salt to the region.

The vessel is expected to begin unloading immediately and more than 100 trucks are expected at the port to help deliver the salt around the country.

A shipment of salt arrived in the country last night which was distributed nationwide by 130 trucks which queued up at Dublin port to transport it across the country.

Met Eireann has said dry, cold weather over the coming days will help to improve road conditions for people driving home for Christmas.
