Renowned climber found dead in Himalayas
A veteran climber has been found dead in the Himalayas after being injured and becoming stranded, a mountain rescue company said today.
Gerold Biner, flight operations manager for respected Swiss firm Air Zermatt, said the body of Slovenian Tomaz Humar was recovered early today.
Humar, 40, last contacted his base on Monday to say that he had been injured while climbing 23,710ft (7,227m) Langtang Lirung.
Viki Groselj, a fellow Slovenian mountaineer, said Humar had broken his leg and become stranded on the mountain.
There was no immediate comment from Kathmandu. Earlier, rescuers there said heavy snow was hampering search and rescue efforts.
