Colin Montgomerie's manager says the Scot is relishing the chance to make up for last year's disappointment at the World Matchplay Championship at Wentworth.
Montgomerie lost to Lee Westwood at the second play-off hole at the end of a memorable final in 2000.
And he faces a tough start to this year's challenge with a second round match against either Retief Goosen or Ian Woosnam.
Montgomerie, seeded four, receives a bye through the first round.
Manager Guy Kinnings said: "He's looking forward to it hugely. His record around Wentworth is fantastic in both the World Matchplay and Volvo PGA.
"He relishes the matchplay format and his calibre is shown in his brilliant Ryder Cup record.
"This tournament is exactly made for him; he likes the 36 holes as it is less of a sprint and he can't wait to get going."
But Goosen, another of Kinnings' clients, is likely to provide tough opposition should he get past Woosnam.
Kinnings continued: "It's going to be a really tough match between those two. Ian's playing really well and Retief's confidence is sky-high.
"Retief's matchplay record, although it was stroke matchplay rather than straight matchplay, at the Alfred Dunhill Cup was better than anybody's."
And Kinnings believes Adam Scott, who faces Thomas Bjorn in the first round, could provide a surprise.
He added: "Adam thoroughly enjoyed his debut last year. Although he's young he's played a lot of stroke and straight matchplay in Australia and he's looking forward to the challenge."
