Nigella Lawson washes her hair once a week, it has been revealed.

The TV chef believes it is unnecessary to cleanse locks more often, insisting it is a myth than hair gets dirty in a day.

She said: “Hair-washing - I do not hold with it. Of course, I do not mean that I never wash mine, but I don't go along with this modern fad to wash it if not every day, then every other day.

“I am not simply a dirty, lazy slob - I just don't believe it is good (unless you are a purveyor of shampoos) to wash your hair any more than it needs. For me, that's about three times a fortnight, or was. Now it is once a week.”

Nigella, 49, claims part of the reason she only rinses her hair once every seven days is that she usually takes baths and not showers.

The brunette added she might take to the shampoo more often if her locks weren’t so long, and admits she only recently invested in a hairdryer.

She wrote on her website: “I also can see that washing short hair is less of a bother than washing long hair. But even then, all my short-haired friends have hairstyles (which I never have had) and thus do styling and blow-drying - I only recently bought my first ever hair-dryer, and even then, I don't use it.”
