Plans for a major reform in the way cars are sold in Europe are to be unveiled by the European Commission tomorrow.
The move could lead to supermarket-style showrooms, with customers free to browse among different makes at more competitive prices.
Brussels will rule on long-established exclusive dealership rights, which are blamed for keeping prices high.
Competition Commissioner Mario Monti has repeatedly warned that exclusive dealership and distribution networks are in doubt unless price gaps between national car markets across the EU are closed.
