An explosion near one of Shiite Islam’s holiest shrines killed at least five people, and the death toll was expected to rise, Iraqi police said today.

An explosion near one of Shiite Islam’s holiest shrines killed at least five people, and the death toll was expected to rise, Iraqi police said today.

Five were killed and nine injured in the blast near the Imam Hussein Shrine in central Karbala, 50 miles south of Baghdad, said police spokesman Rahman Mishawi.
