Witnesses today reported that gunmen tried to break into the Gaza-Egypt border crossing and exchanged fire with Palestinian police.

One policeman guarding the Rafah crossing was wounded, the witnesses said.

Palestinians took control of the crossing last month, as part of a US-brokered agreement with Israel.
