Fine Gael is hoping amendments they are tabling to the new Charities Bill will clamp down on bogus claims by scam artists.

The nine amendments will tackle the rise in fake clothing charities, and mass card scams.

The new legislation is expected to lead to the appointment of a charity regulator, which will force all legal charities to obtain a permit for all future collections.
