A man has been shot in the arms and legs in an apparent punishment attack in Donegal.

Gardai said at least two armed and masked men burst into a house at Legnatraw, near St Johnston, and opened fire on the 39-year-old.

The shooting happened between 10pm and 10.30pm last night.

A 34-year-old woman who was in the house at the time was not injured.

Gardaí said a silver 4x4 believed to have been used in the attack was located at Moness, a townland about one mile (1.6km) from the man’s house shortly after the incident.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to Letterkenny General Hospital where his condition is described as not life-threatening.

It is understood the man was originally from Derry, and had been living in the rented house for a number of months.

Gardaí are appealing for information, and have confirmed they are liaising with the PSNI in Derry.
