Matt Damon is keen to replace Pierce Brosnan as James bond, but concedes there's a wealth of British actors capable of playing the superspy better than him.

The Bourne Supremacy actor would love the "challenge" of playing the suave secret agent, even though he believes actors like Ewan McGregor should be first choice, because the film franchise is "such a British institution".

Damon says: "I've never really thought of it, but that would be great. The only thing is, James Bond is such a British institution.

"I'd love the challenge of playing him, but there are so many great British actors who I think should be on the list before me, like Ewan McGregor. He'd be fantastic."
