World religions must pray for peace says Pope

Pope John Paul has invited representatives from all the world's religions to come to Italy for a day long joint prayer for peace after the terrorist attacks in America on September 11.

Pope John Paul has invited representatives from all the world's religions to come to Italy for a day long joint prayer for peace after the terrorist attacks in America on September 11.

In his weekly address to crowds at Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome, the Pope called on Christian and Muslim representatives to gather next year for a special ceremony for peace.

The date set for the gathering is January 24 in the city of Assisi, the birthplace of Saint Francis and a pilgrimage hill town north east of Rome

The pontiff has also set aside December 14 as a special day for fasting for Catholics, which coincides with the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Pope John Paul has condemned several times the terrorist attacks. He has also made it clear that any "just war" in retaliation needs to avioid harming innocent people.
