Three birdies in his first five holes kept South African Hennie Otto on course for a European Tour record score at the Italian Open in Milan today.
Already 22 under par after 54 holes – one outside the record – Otto picked up more shots on the first, fourth and fifth and went from four ahead to five clear. The record for 72 holes is 29 under.
England’s Phillip Archer and Swede Robert Karlsson were in joint second place, while Nick Dougherty, who flew to the event after attending his mother’s funeral on Tuesday, turned in 31 and with seven to play was in a tie for fifth.
