The annual conference of the Garda Representative Association gets underway in Tralee, Co Kerry, later today.

Gardaí at the conference are expected to discuss a range of issues, including a call on Minister for Justice Michael McDowell to address a lack of leadership in the force.

The GRA wants the minister to establish a working group to deal with the problem, which has been highlighted by the Morris Tribunal.

The association also wants a minimum of three judges to preside over all future tribunals and greater legal representation for any officers called to testify.

Mr McDowell and Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy are both due to give speeches at the conference.
