Suffolk’s Chief Constable has said that the recent spate of murders in his district has stretched his force to the limit.
But Alastair McWhirter said the morale of officers hunting the killer of the five Ipswich women was “high”.
Mr McWhirter said detectives were determined to carry out investigations “thoroughly and quickly”.
He told the people of Ipswich to “look after each other”.
“The tragic events of the last few weeks culminating in the rapid finding of five bodies has stretched us to the full but the help and support we have been given has been tremendous,” he said in a letter to a local newspaper.
“The morale among my colleagues is high. We are determined to solve these horrific crimes.”
Mr McWhirter told the Evening Star his force faced “incredible challenges” and added: “We are working night and day to resolve these cases. We are under a great deal of pressure to get results.
“We are however determined to ensure that we carry out our investigations thoroughly and quickly.
“In the meantime we need the public of Ipswich to look after each other when out for an evening.”
