A British tourist has been shot and killed in India, authorities have confirmed.

David Green, an artist from Darlington, Co Durham, UK, was attacked by gunmen near the central Indian town of Orchha.

His body was found in a nearby forest on Thursday, local reports said.

Britain's Foreign Office said his next of kin have been informed.

Mr Green had been a frequent visitor to the town over the last seven years to paint its medieval palaces and temples. He arrived for his latest trip in December.
