Monaghan and Cavan were both victorious while Leitrim claimed their first win in Division 4 of the Allianz National Hurling League today.
At Grattan Park in Inniskeen, Monaghan overcame a four-point interval deficit to take top spot in the division, thanks to a 2-13 to 1-12 win over Longford.
Gareth Ghee (1-9) was the visitors' scorer-in-chief in the opening half and his 28th minute goal, following a pass from John Minnock, helped Longford to a hard-earned interval lead.
However, Monaghan drew level within two minutes of the restart with captain Brian McGuigan landing a goal from a long-range dipping shot.
Michael McHugh levelled the contest with Ghee and McHugh trading scores.
Ghee fired Longford two points clear with 13 minutes remaining, but Monaghan were resilient and sent home a second goal late on when Michael Lennon latched on to a Ronan Meegan pass.
Meanwhile, Cavan edged hosts Fermanagh by 2-14 to 2-12 in an entertaining encounter at Maguiresbridge.
Leitrim also claimed their first win of 2010 as they overcame South Down by 3-15 to 3-10.
