Students 'shafted' by Government

Student leaders have today accused the Government of lying to them.

Student leaders have today accused the Government of lying to them.

President of the Students Union of Ireland, Colm Jordan, was speaking this afternoon at a protest outside the Dáil.

Hundreds of students protested outside Leinster House about university registration fees.

Colm Jordan says there are hundreds of students who cannot afford to go to college even though it supposed to be free.

He says that "free" actually means €700, when registration is taken into account.

He stressed that the students were also outside the Dáil "in solidarity with the rest of society who have been shafted by this Government".

The protests are continuing.
