Paddy Barnes is devastated after his countback defeat to China's Zou Shiming in his Men's light flyweight semi-final at the ExCel Arena.
The Belfast boxer heard that he had lost by a single point, 45-44, in the countback and was obviously disconsolate at the news.
Barnes said: "I wish he had beaten me by a couple of points because it was so close and it couldn't be more heartbreaking.
Asked if he felt any kind of satisfaction, Barnes replied without hesitation: "Not one bit, I wanted the gold medal."
He admitted that he couldn't have done anymore to win.
"I worked the hardest I could, I have nothing left in the tank, even if I could have had a few more punches, he could have picked me off. I couldn't have gone in hell-for-leather, because he would have picked me off, he is so good."
Barnes paid tribute to his victor.
"He is very loose and very hard to pin down. Once he went three points up in the first round, it was going to be a tough fight. He is very smart and elusive, that's why he is such a good boxer.
"He was blowing in the end, I hit him a few body shots and he was tiring big time. He is getting on, but I wish he was older!"
