Terms of Garda malpractice inquiry to be revealed today

An official inquiry into allegations of Garda malpractice in Co Cavan between 2007 and 2010 will be unveiled today.

Justice minister Frances Fitzgerald will publish the terms of reference to the inquiry this morning.

The inquiry will expand on the Guerin Report, which looked into allegations of misconduct at Bailieborough in Co Cavan raised by Sergeant Maurice McCabe.

His allegations concerned the conduct of investigations into criminal matters in the area.

The report, and its allegations of Garda mishandling of some alleged crimes, led to the resignation of the former justice minister Alan Shatter.
