The Co Donegal accidents, which have claimed the lives of six young people this weekend, are being described as a 'travesty' by Minister for Agriculture Mary Coughlan, who is herself from the county.

Four of the victims will be buried tomorrow.

Minister Coughlan said this afternoon that Inishowen has been devastated by a series of tragedies on the roads involving young people over the past year and a half.

She lamented the fact that most have lost their lives needlessly, and said that action must be taken to prevent further loss of life: “It’s a travesty for the families themselves; we sympathise with every one of them. We must support them in their time of need and certainly we’ll have to evaluate what can be done to educate young people so they don’t find themselves in these tragic circumstances.”
