Ahern court challenge to tribunal set for April

A High Court challenge by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern to limit the work of the Mahon Tribunal will be heard in April.

A High Court challenge by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern to limit the work of the Mahon Tribunal will be heard in April.

A legal bid by the Taoiseach to prevent the Mahon Tribunal questioning him about statements he made in the Dáil will come back before the inquiry on April 1.

Mr Ahern, who denies any wrongdoing, has already given evidence to the tribunal, which is investigating allegations of bribery in the planning process.

He is due to appear as a witness at the inquiry next week.

The Taoiseach’s lawyers said today that a High Court hearing would last three days.

The legal team is asking the court to make an order banning the inquiry from accessing financial advice received by the Taoiseach.
