Tahirah looked a sure-fire future winner when beating all but the shock 33-1 scorer Cadeaux Des Images in the Jewson Builders Merchants Maiden Stakes at Haydock Park.

Carrying the second colours of Hamdan Al Maktoum – the first were carried by the favourite Qabas who slipped on the bend (which was sanded before the next race) though she still had every chance before finishing only fifth – she had enough to do with a quarter of a mile to run.

The winner, who admittedly was not that far in front of her at that stage, got first run on her as she showed her inexperience when asked to go about her business.

But to her credit she was soon getting the hang of things and she finished to such effect that she might well have won in another 50 yards and with a mile sure to suit her, she will soon be going one better.
