€345k in compensation for widow over 'unnecessary' death

A widow is to receive €345,000 in compensation for the 2tragic and unnecessary" death of her husband at Tallaght Hospital nearly eight years ago.

Peter Acton from Clondalkin died from pneumonia and sepsis in October 2005, aged 61.

The hospital has admitted negligence and has apologised for "the failure to properly address the severity of his condition at the time".

The High Court approved the settlement of damages to his widow, Lydia Acton, earlier today.
