A high school student who had a grudge against two classmates has been executed in China after he killed them with rat poison.

Li Feng, 20, put the poison in breakfast porridge at his school in Jinan, eastern China.

Court official Meng Jianguo said the murders were to avenge a grudge after Li Feng had been punished for cheating and became angry at a schoolmate who wrote love letters to his girlfriend.

Another seven students were also poisoned but survived.

Poisoning attacks spurred by grudges and business disputes are often reported in China.

Li used an illegal but widely available type of rat poison. The same poison was used by a man who has admitted to killing 38 snack bar customers elsewhere in China.
