Ford is expected to announce a £236m expansion of its Bridgend engine plant in Wales, creating 600 jobs.

The expansion would involve workers assembling motors for Jaguar and other companies owned by Ford Motor Company.

Output could increase by a third to more than one million engines a year as Jaguar doubles production to 200,000 cars a year.

Ford last year earmarked more than £400 million to redevelop its Dagenham plant in east London, which is set to switch from car assembly to diesel engine assembly in 2002.
