Mohammed Al Fayed has denied suggestions by Neil and Christine Hamilton that he is orchestrating a smear campaign against them.
The Hamiltons have dismissed allegations they were involved in a serious sexual assault.
Mr Al Fayed's spokesman refuted comments made by Mr Hamilton when rejecting the accusations.
A woman told Max Clifford that he and his wife had taken part in a serious sexual assault against her.
Mr Hamilton said last night: "You have to remember that Max Clifford is employed by Mohammed Al Fayed."
But Mr Al Fayed's spokesman dismissed any suggestion that his employer was behind the allegations as a totally false trail.
He added: "The allegations are a matter for the police, they are no concern of Mr Al Fayed whatsoever."
In May, Mr Hamilton was declared bankrupt after being left with spiralling debts from his unsuccessful libel action against Harrods owner Mr Al Fayed. He owes Mr Al Fayed £1.5 million.
Hamilton, a former Tory trade and industry minister, sued Mr Al Fayed over claims that he had taken payments for asking questions in Parliament on the tycoon's behalf.
