Gardaí searching for a missing woman in the Midlands have made a discovery in boglands on the east side of Athlone.

Gardaí searching for a missing woman in the Midlands have made a discovery in boglands on the east side of Athlone.

The State Pathologist has been called to the scene.

The discovery follows extensive searches for 37-year-old Marie Greene, who has been missing for more than one week.

Gardaí say they cannot confirm what they have found, but the State Pathologist has been asked to attend the scene. The Garda Technical Bureau is also en route.

Meanwhile, a man in his sixties remains in custody at Athlone garda station, where he is being held on suspicion of murder.
